Artswest Art Club is a registered not-for-profit society, Artswest Society.

It was created in 1985 by a group of 8 artists who were interested in filling a need to create an artist community for Surrey. A community that supports all visual artists in growing their skills and promoting art activities within the community.   The group provides connections between new and experienced artists, arrange for demonstrations from professional artists, volunteer art events in Surrey, and are a stepping stone for artists wanting to make the leap to a professional designation.

Members of Artswest appreciate, encourage and support lifelong learning, and accept all levels and styles, sharing in the love of art and art processes.  Members produce visual arts in acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastel, drawing, mixed media, and mono prints, and more.  All types of artists make up the group, from active to retired artists, young and old, women and men.  This group consists of people with a wide range of skill levels, and objectives from being focused on professionalism to creating art for enjoyment.  This is a non-competitive group that is open to new ideas, sharing, positive perspectives, and are willing teachers and students of art.

Artswest creates a safe, accepting, mentoring environment that gives newcomers a chance to show their works, build confidence, and opens avenues to public shows, public feedback, opportunities for learning, sharing, and teaching in art.  The Artswest board members are committed to their fellow artists, providing useful feedback, nurturing talents, and promoting art activities in the community.

Artswest gives to the community of Surrey by bringing art out to public places, helping local artists get into galleries, contributing volunteer time to the Surrey Art Gallery, collaborations with the Surrey and Delta Arts Councils, and supporting juried shows in it’s surrounding communities.

Anyone interested in creating art, exploring artistic processes and building their creative skills would benefit by being a member of Surrey Artswest.  Developing our artistic skills makes us more aware of the beauty around us.  “Art is like breathing to us, and we want others to experience their creativity within”.    Membership is approximately 50 members strong, who meet at Newton Cultural Center on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:45pm.  New members are always welcome to partake in the wide range of activities including artist demonstrations, workshops, shows and sales, paint-ins, and friendly critiques.   For more information on this group contact: wendy@artbywendy.com
